  1. Hi, I am trying to locate a grave for Dr.John Pritchett born 1641 died 1711. All I can find is it says died at Apes Hill. Also his son Edward Pritchett born 1695 died 1761.

  3. How would I go about finding a grave in church creek, md. The death certification doesn’t say a graveyard just burial in church creek, md. Name is Catherine Keene, died in august 1926

  4. im trying to find my grandfathers grave. In documents it says that he was died AT Shoal Creek. I don’t know what that means or where to start. Mr charles Goldsboro was his wife’s attorney for her pension request. My grandfathers name was George Bewley ( Buley.) He was a black revolutionary war soldier with a lot of ties to the Lecompte and Breerwood families during the late 1700’s until his death in 1836. Please help.

    • Hi Nate, I cannot locate a George Buley, under either spelling, in the Dorchester County Graves book. That does not mean the gravesite isn’t there, it just means it has not been documented. Just to give you an idea of the geography of the area, Shoal Creek is located just next to the current Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. And I know the Breerwood’s had a very large farm down Bucktown Road. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help. Good luck in your search.

      I am researching a William Bulay/Buley who was born in Dorchester County, 1 March 1861. He died while serving in WWI, 8 November 1917 – He is buried at the United States Naval Academy-
      I wonder if you might also be related to him?

  5. Thanks so much. I attended the annual clean up of Old Field church cemetary this past spring. The association is doing great work with the community in preserving this history. My geneaology work linked me to several family members buried there: Plater, Keene, Henry and Woolford.

    • While we were not looking for specific names or families over the course of this project, there is a site called the Pritchett Family Plot and a also a small community cemetery near Pritchett’s Store in Bishops Head. They may be a good place to start your search.

  9. There is also a graveyard located to the left (from Race Street) behind the Open Bible Church and School. This is to the left and behind of the ballpark

  10. There are graves located at Shoal Creek (near the Sewage Pumping Station) on the right hand side of the road nearest to the water. These were moved from the left hand side of Shoal Creek Manor when the pumping station was created.

    Also, there is one lone grave behind the Fitze home on French Farm Road in East New Market. This grave is located behind the barn on the shores of Indian Creek. It was the grave of the slave handler for the French Family in the early to mid 1800s.

    Also, there are graves within the Hyatt property that were located behind the old ballpark. Looking at the old State Hospital map sites, you would be able to locate the road and the ballpark. It is to the left after you cross the second bridge entering into the now Hyatt property.

  11. Yes, I do agree there is a lot of Cemetery’s in Dorchester County that are undocumented. There are a lot in the Wingate, Toddville, Crocheron, Bishops Head, Crapo and Andrews area that need to be found and cleaned up… I would like to help ( with health permitting and low income also).

      • Yes, I do hope so. The Church in Crocheron, Md., called Bethany United Methodist Church, the cemetery on the right needs to be cleaned up also. But I don’t know who to get in touch with to do so..

  12. there are a lot of old graves in the weeds and woods on the right side of the road…….forgotton about at greenlawn cemetery……also there is an infant buried in the yard at a home in church reek my grandfather bill Metcalf buried her when they lived there
